Spirit Release
This unique piece is an example of a number of "Therapy" pieces Alix painted shortly before, or in this case, just after the death of her first husband.
It depicts his spirit
rising toward the Light of Heaven while she remains rooted and confined to
the earth.. The butterfly is a Christian symbol of rebirth , the rainbow, of
God's promises to His children. These images were not consciously planned,
but appeared to her in the random design of the paint in much the same
fashion that she enhances the images she sees in paint splotches on folded
paper for her "Unexpected Reflections" series.
Others in the series are non-objective in style and contain only patterns created in response to emotions unlike this representational piece. Prints of some of the pieces in the "Therapy" series are now available from Aesthetic Images.
