Alligator Rivers

The East and West Alligator Rivers run to the sea on the north coast of Arnhem Land.  These mighty, flowing reptiles lay in the shadows of the escarpment, towering red walls of rock which hold some of the oldest records of aboriginal myth and aesthetic expression—the rock paintings, dating possibly over 20,000 years into human past.
